Does rotational melting make molecular crystal surfaces more slippery?

The surface of a crystal made of roughly spherical molecules exposes, above its bulk rotational phase transition at T = Tr , a carpet of freely rotating molecules, possibly functioning as "nanobearings" in sliding friction.
