A novel persistent luminescence phosphor based on the magnetic-dipole transitions (5D0 [rightward arrow] 7F1) of Eu3+ in SnO2 nanoparticles was discovered. The thermal activation process associated with the distinct uniform and exponential trap depth distributions was revealed to account for its unique afterglow decay behavior.
