Formation of fractal aggregates during green synthesis of silver nanoparticles

Formation of fractal aggregates during green synthesis of silver nanoparticles: "

Abstract
The aggregation behavior of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) prepared by a green synthesis procedure using starch as the stabilizer
was studied by the small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) technique. The protecting ability of starch was affected by the presence
of NaOH leading to different aggregation behaviors. In all the samples, mass as well as surface fractal regimes were observed.
Assuming spherical form, the radii of nanoparticles were in the range of 11–17 nm.

Synthesis and characterization of Mg-doped ZnO hollow spheres

Synthesis and characterization of Mg-doped ZnO hollow spheres: "

Abstract
Mg-doped ZnO nanoparticles were synthesized by a simple chemical method at low temperature with Mg:Zn atomic ratio from 0
to 7%. The synthesis process is based on the hydrolysis of zinc acetate dihydrate and magnesium acetate tetrahydrate were
heated under refluxing at 65 °C using methanol as a solvent. X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that the Mg-doped ZnO crystallizes
in a wurtzite structure with crystal size of 5–12 nm. These nanocrystals self-aggregated themselves into hollow spheres of
size of 800–1100 nm. High resolution transmission electron microscopy images show that each sphere is made up of numerous
nanoparticles of average diameter 5–11 nm. The XRD patterns, SEM and TEM micrographs of doping of Mg in ZnO confirmed the
formation of hollow spheres indicating that the Mg2+ is successfully substituted into the ZnO host structure of the Zn2+ site. Furthermore, the UV–Vis spectra and photoluminescence (PL) spectra of the ZnO nanoparticles were also investigated.
The band gap of the nanoparticles can be tuned in the range of 3.36–3.55 eV by the use of the dopants.

Synthesis and characterization of hollow nanoparticles of crystalline Gd2O3

Synthesis and characterization of hollow nanoparticles of crystalline Gd2O3: "

Abstract
Although Gd2O3 (gadolinia) nanoparticle is the subject of intense research interest due to its magnetic property as well as controllable
emission wavelengths by doping of various lanthanide ions, it is known to be difficult to prepare monodisperse crystalline
gadolinia nanoparticles because it requires high temperature thermal annealing process to enhance the crystallinity. In this
article, we demonstrate the synthesis of hollow nanoparticles of crystalline Gd2O3 by employing poly(N-vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP) to stabilize the surface of Gd(OH)CO3·H2O nanoparticles and to successively form SiO2 shell as a protecting layer to prevent aggregation during calcinations processes. Silica shells could be selectively removed
after calcinations by a treatment with basic solution to give hollow nanoparticles of crystalline Gd2O3. The formation mechanism of hollow nanoparticles could be suggested based on several characterization results of the size
and shape, and crystallinity of Gd2O3 nanoparticles by TEM, SEM, and XRD.

Optical properties of PbTe doped with Nd

Optical properties of PbTe doped with Nd: "

Abstract
Single crystals of lead telluride doped with Nd were synthesized using the Bridgeman method. Room temperature far infrared
reflectivity spectra were measured for PbTe samples with Nd content in the range 0.2–0.9 at.%. Optical reflectivity in the
far infrared range was measured in the temperature range between 10 and 300 K for a highly polished PbTe sample with 0.6 at.%
Nd. The experimental diagrams were numerically analyzed with a fitting procedure using a modified plasmon–phonon model. Two
local modes were noted and their origin was discussed. Optical electron mobility was calculated for all analyzed samples.

Luminescence property of Ca3(VO4)2:Eu3+ dependence on molar ratio of Ca/V and solution combustion synthesis temperature

Luminescence property of Ca3(VO4)2:Eu3+ dependence on molar ratio of Ca/V and solution combustion synthesis temperature: "

Abstract
Red emitting phosphor Ca3(VO4)2:Eu3+ was prepared by citric acid-assisted solution combustion method and characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission
electron microscopy (TEM), and fluorescence spectrophotometer. The influences of Ca to V molar ratio and synthesis temperature
on phase composition, morphology, grain size, photofluorescence properties, and ultraviolet–visible diffuse reflectance spectra
(UV–Vis DRS) of as-synthesized samples were investigated. The results indicate that Ca to V molar ratio play a key role for
the changing of phase composition, excitation spectrum, and luminescence intensity. The sample prepared at 900 °C, keeping
Ca/V = 3:2.2, has the highest photoluminescence intensity. The possible causes of the effects on photoluminescence mechanism
were also discussed in this work.
