Multicolor upconverting and downshifting photoluminescence were achieved in monodisperse tetragonal lanthanide-doped Sr2 YF7 nanoparticles, which were demonstrated as sensitive luminescent nano-bioprobes for heterogeneous bioassays of avidin and carcinoembryonic antigen.
