Si nanosheets are synthesized from natural sand by a magnesiothermic reduction reaction. The Mg2 Si intermediate phase formed at an early stage of reduction leads to a 2D Si nanostructure. The encapsulation of reduced graphene oxide (RGO) is carried out, and the RGO-encapsulated Si nanosheet electrode exhibits high reversible capacity and excellent rate capability.
