Au nanorods adsorbed on TiO2 are photoelectrochemically transformed to plasmonic Au nanodumbbells. The nanodumbbells, which can be applied to plasmonic sensors, show much higher light absorption and plasmon-induced charge separation efficiency than the original nanorods.
