Direct in situ observation of structural transition driven actuation in VO2 utilizing electron transparent cantilevers

A direct method to visualize and quantify actuation in nanocantilevers that undergo structural transitions by in situ Fresnel contrast imaging is demonstrated. Quantitative analysis is presented for vanadium dioxide that undergoes a sharp monoclinic-tetragonal transition and stress relaxation near 68 [degree]C.
