Orthorhombic KSc2 F7 :Yb/Er nanorods can be synthesized at either lower F- content or higher reaction temperature in the 1-octadecene/oleic acid system. More importantly, they generate strong red upconversion luminescence different from that of Y/Ln-based nanorods.
