Cholesterol is a molecule with many essential functions in nature, and has become an important contributor in the field of bionanotechnology. Herein, we give an insight into cholesterol, its chemistry, the different roles it plays in self-assembled nanostructures and liposomes as well as its impact in different biomedical applications.
