Quaternary Zn1.7 GeN1.8 O nanoparticles are synthesized via the soft urea pathway. The addition of ammonium chloride to the simple and sustainable bottom-up approach enables the formation of homogeneous particles by reduction of the nucleation temperature and prolongation of the growth and ripening time. The as-synthesized particles show a good activity for the photocatalytic degradation of rhodamine B.
