The comprehension of the controlled growth of oxide nanoparticles in colloidal solution is the prerequisite for developing facile shape-controlled synthetic methods. This review summarizes recent advances in the formation mechanisms and capping molecule-assisted methods toward uniform, monodisperse oxide nanoparticles with tunable shape-dependent properties.
