The pathways represent the redox reduction of I3 - to I- on Cocore -Ptshell and Pt CNCs. The Cocore -Ptshell catalyst gains a valence charge rich surface to facilitate the I3 - reduction by the strong expansive lattice strain at Pt shell atoms from the core crystal.
